On January 24th, International Day of Education, alarming numbers come in to focus: 258 million children and youth worldwide do not attend school, while 617 million cannot read or do math. These figures highlight the urgent need for inclusive and equitable high-quality education to break the cycle of poverty and bring equality.

In light of this, we would like to introduce you to a remarkable project that we, Erbacher Food Intelligence, have been supporting since 2014. Following the credo "Donate Instead of Gifts“, we give our entire annual budget for Christmas presents to the organisation "TOHIFU – Together Hilfe für Uganda e.V." every year.

In Uganda, where education is technically free, many young people still face significant hurdles. Private ownership of schools, despite the abolition of primary school fees, make access to education challenging. Poverty in families, limited accessibility to schools in rural areas and early school dropouts due to household duties, work, early pregnancie and child marriage further hinder educational opportunities. Lack of teacher training, environmental disasters and local conflicts exacerbate the situation. One-fifth of Uganda's population aged 15 and older cannot read and write.

TOHIFU aims to improve living conditions in Uganda. The organisation advocates for the development of infrastructure and the promotion of school and vocational education in rural areas. Projects such as the construction of schools and training centers, as well as the intermediation of educational sponsorships, have a lasting impact on improving infrastructure. In close collaboration with longstanding local partners self empowerment is the main goal.

Erbacher Food Intelligence’s commitment has already enabled 30 young people in Uganda to receive an education. While our customers go without Christmas presents, the entire budget is donated to TOHIFU. Thus enriching the lives of disadvantaged people and supporting TOHIFU's valuable work.
